It’s funny, we read through the statistics and pore through ours and client analytics but it never really dawns on us to do statistical comparisons across the major search engines (Google, MSN and Yahoo….and maybe Ask.com but rarely).
A post over at SEO Scoop offers a little data crunching in her comparison by looking at a search phrase that ranks at the top of all the top search engines. Google offers a staggering 83.33%, Yahoo 11.26% and Live/MSN - 5.40% and interestingly no mention of Ask.
We have a few sites that also rank #1 across the board (some of them include Ask) and admit to seeing a similar trend (generally Google dominates with 70% - 90%) which I quote to clients often when they ask why we target Google above the others. These days, folks rare question it though.
Our own analysis that includes Ask has it hovering around the 1% mark with a few spikes appearing over the past few months…maybe it’s starting to catch on a little.
