Maybe tooooo many networks?

I started to think about all the “groups” I either belong to, work in and communicate with and very quickly became overwhelmed. Much like this picture – originally intended to show how email works in a project at orgnet. Not sure it was such a good idea to even start the list – now I am thinking – how do I get out of a few of these. Then the question came up – how many of these are part of who I am and who I want to be. Then part of the question needs to be – how many for business related purposes? How many do I actually enjoy? How many do I get some satisfaction from?

And on top of all this I joined another one this morning but needed to join this group to have conversations like this with someone besides myself – the Socail Media Club.

I guess what the Internet and related technologies (like mobile access) allows is for me to split my time more into more kinds of things I would like to do. At what price? While it is easier to be a part of something because I can interact electronically what is the cost – is it personal interaction, exercise, family, what – there has got to be a cost.

The first thing I noticed is less TV – not a bad thing but for me I mostly watch sports so that takes hits 2 ways the TV and the sports. Maybe not as much this week with the basketball tournaments starting – yes I have my brackets filled out except the final winner – got it narrowed to 2 though.

Getting faster at typing – both on keyboard and on blackberry – good thing or bad thing – not sure. Need to actually schedule things like singing in the choir and taking dog for a walk – argh.

So one of the things really missing is something that has been a part of me for very long spontanaeity- I want it back.

I will be on a rampage over the next few weeks to figure this out – I know a guy who keeps a diary of every minute he is awake and has been doing it for over 9 years and keeps them – why???

Maybe a bit of a ramble but would love some input here.
