Once again the SEO – PPC question

Posted on | August 27, 2008 | 6 Comments

A good graphic that at least tries to understand the conversation:

Seo in the long fun

Seo in the long run

While this may be over simplified the meaning is simple. SEO may cost more up front in the long run the ROI can be, should be and if done right will be a better return on investment.

That is not to jump into the fray about SEO with PPC – I think there are many ways they work together but in many of the clients eyes the question is one or the other and the answer depends on the expectations of the client. If they need answers and results right away then turn on the PPc campaign. If they are more patient and want longer term results then lets doe the hard job of real research and put together the right marketing mix online to warrant those results.

PPC should be part of an overall marketing plan. Landing pages done right can enhance a site’s SEO practices.

When dealing with idealized, extracted outcomes from the real-world, there are FEW which follow the idealized ‘norm’…

So as usual, with PPC, more study helps. Study PPC reviews here: http://www.Hot-Data.info/ppc/

Even though it usually takes longer, I would side with SEO.

PPC, depending on your market, can become insanely expensive and if those clicks don’t get converted into sales you have essentially just thrown your money out the window. In my opinion it is better to invest the money getting yourself a more permanent source of visitors by getting ranked high in the search engines.

I don’t think you should ever do just one or the other . I think both need to be used to launch a good online marketing campaign. great post!

PPC may be useful for a new web site to get some traffic, but the cost can spiral out of control if the campaign is not properly managed.

Organic SEO provides the greatest return over time. For example, when you turn off the money spigot on PPC, that traffic disappears.

If you’ve done a good job on Organic SEO, the traffic keeps increasing over time.
