Prioritize

I need to drive more traffic to my site.
My site needs to be designed better
I need more business.
“What is a mother to do?” Well what do you do first – take the SEO steps necessary to send the traffic? Redesign the site, do a better call to action? What?
As I have said many times – driving traffic is relatively easy though driving the highly desired targeted traffic – more apt to take action is much more difficult and the more your product and service is just like everyone elses the harder it becomes. The key is to go back and decide what busines you are in first. Are you an e-commerce company or are you just driving traffic so they call you? What about email back to you – will you ask some qualifying quesitons? All these quesitons will depend on what you are and what you are trying to accomplish with your site.
The first quesiton I ask is “Why do you have a website in the first place” Sadly many times I have heard – because everyone else has one or my favorite, “I needed a better email address”. If you don’t have a better answer that that then don’t bother driving traffic because you don’t get the potential of the Internet for you marketing.
If you are one of those who understand the potential and want more of your share then greater questions arise. What do you want people to do when they get to your site? Pretend I have spoken to your competitors and give me your best 30 second commercial on why you - WII-FM – What’s in it for me. Don’t make me look very hard either or as the song goes – fly away.
Now about the call to action – what would you do – so often we forget or sometimes I talk to those so into their industry they really don’t know how us normal folks might want to act once we find a potential for what we are searching for. Yes folks I took the liberty of calling myself normal though there are many who might disagree – bear with me for a short time on this one. A call to action will depend on your product, your service, how it is normally bought and sold and your company goals and objectives.
My simple rule of thumb -if it is possible to buy it on the Internet and others are selling on the Internet then you better as well, or have a really good reason why not and that reason should make sense to me – the prospect.
Call me versus email me or both. Once again it depends greatly on what product or service you are selling. The rule I like – the more it is possible to qualify people without driving them away the more you want quick response. How about a chat feature online at any time?
So many decisions so little time – understanding your own goals and objectives along with valuable research that can be done for you from a reputable firm will help you along the way.
